Mademoiselle
April 1957

A disciple of legendary art director Alexey Brodovitch, Ben Somoroff used a negative image of a gamine model in a striped Kay Windsor shirtdress and Dachette hat for the punchy, graphic layout of Mademoiselle's April 1957 issue on how and where to vacation and, of course, what to wear there.

Calphalon Steel Knives

The ebony steel blades on this assortment of knives look particularly sleek against a berry-red background. Photograph by Romulo Yanes for the December 2006 Gourmet.

  White Sunglasses & Red Lipstick

Red and white and blue all over. Model Muriel Maxwell wears a striking pair of white sunglasses while applying lipstick. Horst P. Horst's photograph appeared in the July 1, 1939, Vogue.
