Image Licensing

Purchasing a license for one of our images gives you the ability to reproduce that image (usually only one time, and for a certain period of time) in a publication such as a book, newspaper or trade magazine. This is a great tool for businesses or individuals hoping to use the unique sophistication and vast selection of Condé Nast Archive images that we offer to their advantage. Before you purchase a license to use an image, you will be asked to accept an agreement that confirms you will use the image only for the purpose stated.  Your license is good for only one purpose and a one-time use. To use the image for another purpose, you must purchase a separate license.  Please see below for further detail on specific uses.

Licensing for use in a book, magazine or newspaper

When you select “Book License,” “Newspaper License” or “Magazine License”, you are purchasing only the ability to reproduce an image one time in the specified publication, for the print run you state when placing your order.

Your book license entitles you to use the image in one edition only of your book. Your newspaper license entitles you to use the image in one issue only of your newspaper and your magazine license entitles you to use the image in one issue only of your magazine. Any use beyond that single edition or issue will incur additional charges.

Whether you are purchasing a newspaper use license, a textbook use license, or another license for print use, rights to distribute your publication outside the U.S. and Canada (world rights), or to display an electronic version of your publication online (electronic rights), may also incur additional charges. You will have the option to select these extra rights when you add a print use to your cart.

Purchasing an image for a print use does not entitle you to use the image on a Web page, in an electronic presentation (such as a PowerPoint), in promotional or advertising publications (such as brochures or fliers), in e-mails, or for any other use besides that described in the first paragraph of this answer. Furthermore, purchasing an image for one print use does not entitle you to use it in other print uses.

If you are purchasing a newspaper use license, textbook use license, or another license for print use, you’ll be asked to read a license agreement stating these and other terms and conditions of your use, then check a box indicating your acceptance of these terms, prior to checkout.

License Delivery

All licensing orders are e-mailed within one business day of receipt of order. There is no charge for licensed image delivery.

Your licensed image order will be available for download from both the order confirmation page and the order history section in “My Account.” Downloadable image files are compressed, so if you purchase more than one image license, you still need to download only one file. The download link will expire 7 days after purchase.

If you experience any problems downloading your image, please contact customer service.
