Walt Disney was among the first to work in animated motion pictures, starting his career as a commercial illustrator and creating animated advertisements to run between films. In 1927 Disney's character Mickey Mouse debuted in his first sound film, 'Steamboat Willie,' and over the next few years, Mickey and Disney's other animal characters became international sensations.
