The May 1962 GQ cover, designed by Chadwick Hall, noted an explosion of festive 'Carnival of Knits' on the scene in men's fashion. Hall placed an inset of a chevron-striped knit jacket over a slightly unfocused image of a clown, complete with bright face paint and bulbous red nose.
